Wasserdampftherapie mit dem Rezum TM-System

RezumTM – Water Vapor Therapy

To treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) we provide a broad spectrum ranging from oral medication to open surgery.

If patients suffer due to BPH symptoms but don’t tolerate their medication they need different therapeutic options. Especially when their symptoms are not that irritating and endoscopic surgery is not indicated. In these cases we offer gentle individual tailored alternatives.

An innovative and consistent concept is the RezumTM – Water Vapor Therapy.

This procedure evaporated the obstructing adenoma by hot steam. Accordingly the symptoms improve significantly. (s pic.)

Patients with mild symptoms as dribbling, nocturia or urinary residual volume can reduce their symptoms with RezumTM. Erection and ejaculation is not compromised.

How does RezumTM works?

The procedure lasts 5-10 minutes. While the patient is under a gentle and short general anesthesia, the surgeon places a small plastic tube into the adenoma. Via this tube hot steam is infused for a couple of seconds into the adenoma. The steam evaporates the tissue. The following weeks this tissue is reabsorbed. The obstructing effect of the adenoma is fading away and accordingly the symptoms improve. (1)

The patient has an indwelling catheter for 2 – 7 days. Most of the patients notice an improvement after 2-3 weeks. The good outcome is reflected in the randomized study. (2)

Complications?

In Brief the risk of complications is low. You don’t have to except a significant blood loss.

Erection and ejaculation is not compromised.

  • The risk to undergo another surgery
    after 5 years is 4,4 %
  • The risk need medication
    again is 11,1 % (1)
